{"id":529,"date":"2018-11-06T15:01:09","date_gmt":"2018-11-06T15:01:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/raphaellef5.sg-host.com\/?p=529"},"modified":"2021-09-14T16:20:42","modified_gmt":"2021-09-14T16:20:42","slug":"premiere-official-ceremony-for-college-and-university-scholarships-the-excellence-athlete-foundation-awards-418000-in-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fondationaleo.ca\/en\/premiere-soiree-officielle-des-bourses-collegiales-et-universitaires-la-fondation-de-lathlete-dexcellence-remet-418-000-en-bourses\/","title":{"rendered":"Official First Evening of College and University Scholarships; the Foundation de l\u2019athl\u00e8te d\u2019excellence awards $418,000 in scholarships $"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<div class=\"content\">\n<div>Montreal, November 29, 2018 \u2013 The first official College and University Bursary Evening presented by RDS in collaboration with TKNL, organized by the Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) in partnership with the RSEQ, awarded $418,000 $ in individual bursaries to the top collegiate and university student-athletes in Quebec.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The FAEQ, which announced a major restructuring of its college and university recruitment program last June, took the opportunity to financially support more than a hundred college and university students who distinguished themselves academically, athletically, or in terms of social involvement during the 2017-2018 season.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The FAEQ therefore has 27 CEGEP recruitment scholarship holders in its ranks, who received a scholarship of $3,000 $ over 3 years; 28 university recruitment scholarship holders who earned a scholarship of $10,000 $ over 5 years; 5 non-Quebec student-athletes who wish to pursue their studies at a Quebec university were offered a scholarship of $3,000 $ each; and finally, 21 merit scholarships of $2,000 $ were presented to student-athletes who are finalists in the 7 program categories in connection with their results during the 2017-2018 season.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00abCollege and university recruitment programs have been rethought to create an offer that is competitive with those outside the province and thus avoid the exodus of our best student-athletes,\u00bb said Patricia Demers, Executive Director of the FAEQ. \u00abWe believe that with this new structure, we will be able to have a greater impact on the decision-making process of student-athletes and we will be in a better position to follow their academic and athletic progress for eight years.\u00bb<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Held at the John Molson Centre, a proud partner of the FAEQ for over 30 years, the FAEQ also took the opportunity to announce the winners of the seven categories in contention.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Student-Athlete of the Year for Academic Excellence, Molson Foundation<\/strong> Catherine Proulx plays soccer for the Carabins. She was the sole goal scorer and chosen Player of the Game in a 1-0 victory in the U SPORTS Canadian Championship final, leading the Carabins to their first national title. She earned 28 credits while maintaining a GPA of 3.97 out of 4.3 in Energy Engineering.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Academic Excellence Student-Athlete of the Year Molson Foundation<\/strong> Is Francis Carter wrestling with the Stingers? A gold medalist in the 68 kg category at the U SPORTS Canadian Championships, the student-athlete was named Wrestler of the Year by U SPORTS. After completing 24 credits in his bachelor's degree, he achieved perfection with a 4.3 GPA out of 4.3 in psychology and behavioral neuroscience.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Student-Athlete of the Year - Individual Sport - Journal de Montr\u00e9al<\/strong> Aur\u00e9lie Dub\u00e9-Lavoie is in track and field and cross-country with the Rouge et Or. The law student-athlete won the bronze medal in the 1500m and 4x800m at the U Sports Championships. The RSEQ cross-country athlete of the year won the cross-country race and the 4x800m at the Quebec Championships, also finishing second in the 1500m and 3000m.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Student-Athlete of the Year in Individual Sports - Journal de Montr\u00e9al<\/strong> Jean-Simon Desgagn\u00e9s competes in track and field and cross-country with the Rouge et Or. The medicine student-athlete won gold in the 3000m and 4x800m races, as well as silver in the 1500m at the RSEQ Quebec Championships. He was also named U SPORTS cross-country rookie of the year and RSEQ track and field and cross-country rookie of the year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>The National Bank Collegiate Athlete of the Year for Team Sports<\/strong> Emmanuelle Alcindor plays soccer for the Carabins. A gold medalist at the U SPORTS Canadian Championship, the administration student-athlete was the Carabins' top scorer and point-getter in 14 regular season games. Voted RSEQ athlete of the year, she was named to the U SPORTS, RSEQ, and national championship all-star teams.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Team Sport Athlete of the Year, Government of Quebec<\/strong> Mathieu Betts plays football for the Rouge et Or. The physical education teaching student-athlete was selected Lineman of the Year and named to the defensive All-Star teams for both U Sports and the RSEQ. A provincial champion and national runner-up, he was chosen Defensive Player of the Year at the East-West Bowl.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Gildan Leadership Student-Athlete of the Year<\/strong> B\u00e9atrice Guay is involved in badminton with the Rouge et Or. The psychoeducation student-athlete organizes and leads half-day badminton sessions for children with hearing impairments. She also dedicates time each week to students with language delays at the \u00c9cole oraliste de Qu\u00e9bec.
