Montreal, September 19, 2018<\/strong> The Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) awarded scholarships to 29 student-athletes at the 21st edition of the Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec Scholarship Program, held at the Lion d\u2019Or.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Three types of scholarships were awarded: 19 academic excellence scholarships highlighting noteworthy academic results, 9 academic and sports achievement support scholarships encouraging the balance of sports and studies, and 1 perseverance scholarship valuing an exemplary attitude during difficult circumstances.<\/div>\n

\u00abIt is with great happiness that we have been collaborating for 21 years now with Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec, a loyal partner intimately involved with Quebec's athletic talent, M. Claude Chagnon, President of the FAEQ, wished to recall. Bearing witness to its great relevance, several aspiring Olympians and Paralympians have been supported by the Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec Scholarship Program, which assists identified junior or elite student-athletes aged between 11 and 22 years old. The objective is therefore to make a difference from the emergence of their talent, probably at the time when they need it most.\u00bb<\/div>\n

This is how Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec financially supported, at certain points in their careers, Olympic medalists Joannie Rochette in figure skating, Jennifer Abel, Meaghan Benfeito, and Roseline Filion in diving, Christine Girard in weightlifting, Antoine Valois-Fortier in judo, Fran\u00e7ois-Louis Tremblay in short track speed skating, and Karine Sergerie in taekwondo; world champions Erik Guay in alpine skiing and Laurence Vincent-Lapointe in sprint canoe\/kayak, as well as Paralympians Alexandre Dupont in para-athletics, Philippe Ouellet in para-swimming, and Maude Jacques in wheelchair basketball.<\/div>\n

Eligibility Criteria<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The student-athlete must develop a post-career project, often by pursuing secondary, college, or university studies. In addition to being identified as a \"Rel\u00e8ve\" or \"\u00c9lite\" athlete by their sports federation, the student-athlete must be eligible to represent Canada at the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, or World Championships in their sport. Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec also awards at least one scholarship to a student-athlete from each of the company's operating regions.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
