Kingsey Falls, April 10, 2018<\/strong> \u2013 Cascades presented the 14th edition of its Foundation of athletic excellence (FAEQ) scholarship program at Parc Marie-Victorin in Kingsey Falls, awarding 23 student-athletes aged 14 to 24 a total of $82,000 $ today for their academic and athletic achievements.<\/p>\n

\u00abCascades is very proud to support young student-athletes and role models from across the province in their journeys. Our company's collaboration with the Athletes\u00bb Excellence Foundation is now in its 14th year and has allowed us to award nearly 275 scholarships totaling $1 million. The talent, discipline, and determination of our scholarship recipients inspire us,\" emphasized Mr. Mario Plourde, President and CEO of Cascades.<\/p>\n

Individual scholarships of $2,000 $ or $4,000 $ were awarded in four categories: 11 for academic excellence to highlight outstanding academic results, 10 for academic and athletic success support to promote the reconciliation of sports and studies, 1 for college recruitment to encourage a student-athlete to pursue their studies and athletic career in a Quebec CEGEP, and 1 for leadership to reward athletic and academic success associated with significant and inspiring community involvement by a student-athlete.<\/p>\n

From the group of recipients in 2018, let's mention freestyle skier Catrine Lavall\u00e9e, 19th in the aerials at her first Olympic experience in Pyeongchang, Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rique Turgeon, who also competed at the South Korean event in para-alpine skiing races, and long track speed skater B\u00e9atrice Lamarche, crowned junior world champion in the mass start and twice 4th at this competition last month.<\/p>\n

M. Claude Chagnon, President of the Foundation, rejoiced in the strength of the partnership between Cascades and the FAEQ, whose fruits are reaped year after year by many of the province's top student-athletes. The support offered to them by the renowned Quebec company early in their academic and athletic careers is an important component of the foundations leading to the outstanding successes of the majority of them.<\/p>\n

Several members of the Cascades Scholarship Program have indeed distinguished themselves over the years, whether in their studies, their sport, or their post-athletic careers. One of them, cross-country skier Alex Harvey, world champion in the 50 km freestyle, made a lasting impression in Pyeongchang, finishing fourth in the 50 km classic after an epic sprint.<\/p>\n

Mika\u00ebl Kingsbury's Olympic gold medal in the moguls is another achievement by a former company scholarship recipient at the recent Winter Games. Other scholarship recipients are also standing out for their academic achievements, such as freestyle skier Alex-Anne Gagnon, who is ending her athletic career this year but will pursue her medical studies at the Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al in September.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
