Montr\u00e9al, 16 janvier 2024 \u2014<\/b> Maintenant devenue une tradition pour entamer la nouvelle ann\u00e9e, la remise des fondations Al\u00e9o et Georges St-Pierre ont mis en lumi\u00e8re sept \u00e9tudiant\u00b7e\u00b7s-athl\u00e8tes de la rel\u00e8ve en sports de combat et en gymnastique pour les encourager \u00e0 poursuivre leurs parcours via notamment des bourses de 2000 $ ou de 4000 $.<\/p>\n
Les r\u00e9cipiendaires ont eu la chance de rencontrer, d\u2019\u00e9changer et m\u00eame de faire une d\u00e9monstration de leur discipline avec l\u2019ancien champion du monde d\u2019arts martiaux mixtes, philanthrope et entrepreneur Georges St-Pierre<\/b>. Tenant \u00e0 \u00eatre pr\u00e9sent pour rencontrer ses boursi\u00e8res et ses boursiers, il a accord\u00e9 une attention particuli\u00e8re et un r\u00e9el int\u00e9r\u00eat envers chaque athl\u00e8te au sujet de leurs r\u00e9ussites et de leurs d\u00e9fis.<\/p>\n
Un des objectifs du Programme de bourses de la FGSP est de soutenir des \u00e9tudiant\u00b7e\u00b7s-athl\u00e8tes pratiquant un sport que Georges St-Pierre int\u00e9grait dans sa pr\u00e9paration : la boxe, l\u2019escrime, la gymnastique artistique, le judo, le karat\u00e9, la lutte et le taekwondo.<\/p>\n
Nouveaut\u00e9 cette ann\u00e9e : une boursi\u00e8re de la toute premi\u00e8re cohorte de la Fondation Georges St-Pierre, Am\u00e9lie Henry<\/b>, s\u2019est jointe \u00e0 la remise, mais cette fois comme donatrice. Ancienne taekwondo\u00efste, elle a particip\u00e9 au D\u00e9fi 808 Bonneville 2023 et a ainsi amass\u00e9 les fonds pour redonner \u00e0 la prochaine g\u00e9n\u00e9ration. Ambassadrice de la Fondation Al\u00e9o, Am\u00e9lie a offert la bourse en taekwondo \u00e0 Victor Beaudet<\/b>, entrant ainsi dans le mouvement de r\u00e9investissement vers l\u2019avenir d\u2019anciens r\u00e9cipiendaires. L\u2019accompagnement de la Fondation Al\u00e9o leur a permis d\u2019\u00eatre propuls\u00e9\u00b7e\u00b7s au-del\u00e0 du sport et ils\u00b7elles choisissent aujourd\u2019hui d\u2019investir \u00e0 leur tour.<\/p>\n
La Maison du loisir et du sport s\u2019est pour l\u2019occasion transform\u00e9e en dojo alors que des tatamis ont \u00e9t\u00e9 install\u00e9s pour la remise, permettant de sympathiques d\u00e9monstrations de tous les sports en vedette lors de la remise. Benoit Beaudoin<\/b>, reporter – journaliste sp\u00e9cialiste des arts martiaux mixtes et descripteur des galas de l\u2019UFC \u00e0 RDS, a anim\u00e9 l\u2019activit\u00e9, en \u00e9quipe avec Fran\u00e7ois-Olivier Roberge<\/b>, conseiller communication et philanthropie \u00e0 la Fondation Al\u00e9o, pr\u00e9sentant les jeunes r\u00e9cipiendaires, leurs accomplissements et leurs aspirations.<\/p>\n

\u00ab Toutes ces disciplines sportives, individuellement et combin\u00e9es, ont form\u00e9 celui que je suis devenu. Le sport a forg\u00e9 ma vie et m\u2019a offert des enseignements qui m\u2019ont \u00e9t\u00e9 et me seront utiles toute ma vie. C\u2019est important pour moi de reconna\u00eetre cet apport et d\u2019encourager les jeunes \u00e0 poursuivre dans cette voie. Victor Beaudet Victor a connu une ann\u00e9e 2023 exceptionnelle. L\u2019\u00e9tudiant en 5e<\/sup> secondaire \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9cole Antoine-de-Saint-Exup\u00e9ry a remport\u00e9, en janvier, le titre de champion canadien junior chez les moins de 73 kg et, en mars, la m\u00e9daille d\u2019or au US Open, \u00e0 Las Vegas, chez les juniors dans la m\u00eame cat\u00e9gorie de poids. Celui qui r\u00eave des Olympiques est particuli\u00e8rement fier de la pers\u00e9v\u00e9rance qu\u2019il d\u00e9montre, autant \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole que sur les tatamis.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n Talia Birch Talia a d\u00e9but\u00e9 la boxe il y a seulement deux ans, comme activit\u00e9 physique pour \u00eatre en forme! Au printemps, le repr\u00e9sentant du Club de judo Se\u00efkidokan avait remport\u00e9 le titre de champion canadien des moins de 16 ans chez les moins de 50 kg, \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al. St-Pierre, who is always eager to meet his bursary recipients, took a special interest in each athlete\u2019s successes and challenges.<\/p>\n One of the objectives of the GSP Sponsorship Program is to support student-athletes who practice sports that St-Pierre incorporated into his own training regimens: boxing, fencing, artistic gymnastics, judo, karate, wrestling, and taekwondo.<\/p>\n New this year: Am\u00e9lie Henry<\/b>, a bursary recipient from the very first cohort of the Georges St-Pierre Foundation Sponsorship Program, took part in the ceremony, this time as a donor. Henry, who formerly practiced taekwondo, participated in the 2023 Bonneville 808 Challenge to raise funds for the up-and-coming generation of athletes. As an ambassador for the Al\u00e9o Foundation, she awarded the taekwondo bursary to Victor Beaudet, thus joining other past recipients as they invest in the future. The support past recipients received from the Al\u00e9o Foundation propelled them beyond sport and are now paying it forward.<\/p>\n For the event, the Maison du Loisir et du Sport was transformed into a dojo, as tatamis were set up for the ceremony, allowing for demonstrations of all the sports represented amongst the recipients. In January 2023, the secondary 5 student at Antoine de Saint-Exup\u00e9ry High School won the title of Canadian Junior Champion in the under-73 kg class. In March, he won the gold medal in the same weight category at the US Open in Las Vegas. The Olympic hopeful is particularly proud of his perseverance, both at school and on the tatamis.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n Talia Birch<\/b> Talia began boxing only two years ago, as a way to stay in shape. With her unique talent, she progressed at lightning speed, winning the gold medal at the Canada Games in the under-53 kg category in March 2023. It was the most memorable moment of her young career.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n Xavier Brouillette<\/b> In November 2023, Xavier Brouillette won the silver medal at the Pan-American Open in Montr\u00e9al in the cadet under-55 kg category. In May of the same year, Xavier, who trains with the Club de Judo Se\u00efkidokan, had captured the title of U16 Canadian Champion in the under-50 kg weight division. For Xavier, judo is more than just a sport; it is a discipline that helps him in several aspects of his life.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n Abderrahmane Guemmat<\/b> Reigning Canadian champion Abderrahmane won the title in his age group for two years in a row. The secondary 3 student at Coll\u00e8ge Reine-Marie loves his sport, especially the combats! He dreams of someday standing on top of the podium at the World Championships and the Olympics.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n Floryan Lacroix<\/b> Floryan, the Quebec junior champion and Quebec senior runner-up in men\u2019s epee, has found his path in fencing, and he intends to follow it all the way!
