Twenty-eight outstanding student-athletes from the province supported in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence<\/em><\/p>\n

Montreal, June 3, 2024 \u2013<\/strong> The Montreal Canadiens and the Al\u00e9o Foundation are pleased to announce the awarding of 60,000 $ in scholarships and support services to 28 young hockey players\u2014elite-level athletes who have distinguished themselves over the past year.<\/p>\n

Number 17e<\/sup> edition of Canadiens de Montr\u00e9al Scholarship Program<\/strong> managed by the Al\u00e9o Foundation, in partnership with Hockey Qu\u00e9bec, the Quebec M18 AAA Hockey Development League (LHM18AAAQ), and the R\u00e9seau du sport \u00e9tudiant du Qu\u00e9bec (RSEQ), is once again supporting the top up-and-coming male and female hockey players this year.<\/p>\n

Twenty-eight student-athletes aged 15 to 17 were honored for their talent, athletic achievements, and exceptional academic records during a scholarship award ceremony held Monday at the Bell Centre. One female hockey player was selected from each of the eight U18 AAA women\u2019s teams in the Quebec Hockey Excellence League (LHEQ), as well as two male hockey players from the U17 AAA men\u2019s division of the same league. In addition, one male player was chosen from each of the 15 men\u2019s teams in the U18 AAA Hockey Development League. Three scholarship recipients playing in the RSEQ will also receive financial support. To encourage student-athletes to continue their education and prepare for life after their athletic careers, each will receive an individual scholarship of 2,000 $, in addition to lifetime access to all support services offered by the Al\u00e9o Foundation.<\/p>\n

Many former recipients of Montreal Canadiens scholarships have distinguished themselves since the program was established, including Olympic medalists M\u00e9lodie Daoust<\/strong>, Ann-Ren\u00e9e Desbiens<\/strong>, Marie-Philip Poulin<\/strong> and Lauriane Rougeau, <\/strong>who have all joined the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) this season. Among the scholarship recipients who played in the NHL this past season, there are also Sammy Blais<\/strong> of the St. Louis Blues, Elliot Desnoyers<\/strong> Philadelphia Flyers, Anthony Duclair<\/strong> of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Samuel Girard<\/strong> of the Colorado Avalanche, Alexis Lafreni\u00e8re<\/strong> of the New York Rangers, Devon Levi<\/strong> of the Buffalo Sabres, Kevin Mandolese<\/strong> of the Ottawa Senators, Mike Matheson<\/strong> of the Montreal Canadiens, Jakob Pelletier<\/strong> of the Calgary Flames, Sam Poulin<\/strong> of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Nicolas Roy<\/strong> of the Vegas Golden Knights and Joe Veleno<\/strong> of the Detroit Red Wings.<\/p>\n

The 17the<\/sup> edition of the Montreal Canadiens Bursary Program<\/strong>, managed by the Al\u00e9o Foundation in partnership with Hockey Qu\u00e9bec, the Quebec U18 AAA Hockey Development League (LHM18AAAQ) and the Quebec Student Sports Federation<\/em> (RSEQ), continues this year to support the best up-and-coming hockey players. Twenty-eight student-athletes, who range in age from 15 to 17 years old, were recognized for their talent, sports achievements and outstanding academic performance at a scholarship awards ceremony held Monday at the Bell Centre.
