Sainte-Julie, November 14, 2018 The Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) and Golf Québec unveiled the names of the 27 recipients of the 5th edition of the Golf Québec / FAEQ Scholarship Program, who shared a total of $74,000 $in individual scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 $.
At a ceremony held at the Richelieu Valley Golf Club, academic excellence and academic and athletic achievement scholarships were awarded to the best young golfers in Quebec aged 13 to 17.
The Golf Québec / FAEQ Scholarship Program was established in 2014. It is the result of the two organizations' desire to financially support and better guide young golfers while raising their awareness of pursuing and succeeding in their studies alongside their athletic careers.
This year, 10 donors are returning to the program: Claude Chagnon, Marc Dalpé, Fednav, F. Furst Enterprises LTD, Fondation des Gouverneurs de Québec, Fondation Roland Beaulieu, Groupe Park Avenue, William Molson, Peacock Family Foundation, and Raymond Royer.
Starting next year, a portion of the profits from the Bonneville 808 Challenge will be used to fund scholarships for this program, as well as contributions from Claude Chagnon, the Roland Beaulieu Foundation, and Groupe Park Avenue, who have renewed their partnership as of today, with others in the process of confirming theirs.
«The first five-year cycle of this bursary program has clearly demonstrated the relevance and importance of the financial support offered to numerous athletes since its creation in collaboration with the FAEQ,» said Jean-Pierre Beaulieu, General Manager of Golf Québec. «The impact was immediate for the youngsters, both on the course and in the classroom. Their performances on the provincial, national and even international scenes are impressive. However, beyond the financial support provided, it is the hope and encouragement transmitted to the athletes by the program that is the driving force behind their development. Just imagine the motivation this provides for the youngest golfers in development, who imagine themselves following in the footsteps of our award-winning athletes. I would also like to extend my warmest thanks to all the generous donors for their support in making the dreams of so many young athletes come true, and to the Foundation for setting up the program over the last few years.»
«The recent sporting and academic performances of Quebec's top promising athletes supported by our program demonstrate its relevance,» stated Claude Chagnon, President of the FAEQ. Céleste Dao won two national titles during the season, at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship as well as in Mexico. Christopher Vandette achieved the same feat for boys at the national level. Both are part of Team Canada's development squad. Furthermore, Céleste qualified for the LPGA's U.S. Women's Open and represented the country alongside William Duquette at the Youth Olympic Games. The FAEQ is proud to support these student-athletes who are role models for many other young people."
