«The Alouettes have been promoting academic perseverance and fighting school dropout across Quebec for over 20 years,» said Mr. Boivin. "Thanks to this partnership with the FAEQ, which we are very proud of, many young football players are recognized for both their academic excellence and their athletic performance. Their success shows that it is possible to combine academic achievement with high-level sports."
«It is always with great pride that the FAEQ partners with the Montreal Alouettes, who, like us, promote academic perseverance and community engagement,» added Mr. Claude Chagnon, President of the FAEQ. "For many years, several of the best up-and-coming football players, from high school to the university level, have been able to count on the Alouettes' Scholarship Program."
The ceremony held at McGill University's Douglas Hall before the Alouettes vs. Hamilton Tiger-Cats game presented six types of scholarships: 4 academic excellence awards recognizing outstanding academic achievement, 11 academic and athletic success support awards encouraging the balance of studies and football, 3 leadership awards highlighting community involvement, 1 perseverance award valuing exemplary attitude in difficult circumstances, 2 college recruitment awards for student-athletes graduating from high school who will continue their journey in CEGEP, and 1 university recruitment award for a student-athlete graduating from CEGEP who has chosen to study and play at a Quebec university. All recipients were then able to attend the Montreal team's game.
The Montreal Alouettes Scholarship Program, officially presented by RDS, is managed by the FAEQ and Football Québec, represented by Mr. Jonathan Collin and Mr. Bob Mironowicz respectively, in partnership with the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), whose president is Mr. Gustave Roël.
