Quebec City, May 24, 2018 – M. Jean St-Gelais, Chairman and CEO of La Capitale Insurance and Financial Services, announced the names of the 21 outstanding student-athletes who will share a total of $80,000 $ on the occasion of the 9th edition of the La Capitale Insurance and Financial Services Scholarship Program, an award organized in collaboration with the Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ).
«In close alignment with its values, La Capitale is truly happy to participate in the development of 21 young Quebec student-athletes. Through this partnership, we can also convey the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle habits at all stages of our lives. I congratulate our scholarship recipients for being extraordinary examples of perseverance and determination, particularly the athletes who distinguished themselves at the Olympic Games and whom we are proud to support in their journey,» recalled Mr. St-Gelais.
Three types of scholarships are awarded in 2018: 4 academic excellence scholarships highlighting outstanding academic results, 16 academic and athletic success support scholarships promoting the balance of sports and studies, and one leadership scholarship recognizing a role model for community involvement.
«The collaboration developed with La Capitale is very valuable to us, as it is based on great stability and the sustainability of our actions. Indeed, La Capitale renews its support to several of its scholarship holders year after year. This trust allows them to follow their progress and development, whether in sports or academics,» explained the President of the FAEQ, Mr. Claude Chagnon.
This is how Olympic medalist Kim Boutin from the Pyeongchang Games and Olympian Anne-Marie Comeau, World Champion Laurence Vincent-Lapointe, and World Championship bronze medalist Sophiane Méthot, who were supported by La Capitale in 2017, are returning to the La Capitale Insurance and Financial Services Scholarship Program family in 2018.
Short track speed skater Kim Boutin dazzled Quebec in February with her haul of three medals, one silver and two bronze. Anne-Marie Comeau also turned many heads by qualifying in cross-country skiing for her first Games in South Korea, having been training primarily in athletics for a few months.
Last summer, Laurence Vincent-Lapointe added two world titles to her impressive sprint canoe collection, while trampolinist Sophiane Méthot became the first Quebecer to medal in the individual event at the World Championships in November.
