The Équipe/Athletes' Foundation launches its new College Recruitment Scholarship Program

Québec City, October 20, 2017 – The Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) today launched the first edition of its Collegiate Recruitment Scholarship Program, awarding $44,000 $ in individual scholarships to 22 graduating high school student-athletes. The brand-new program was created to promote collegiate sports and encourage top student-athletes from RSEQ (Quebec Student Sports Network) sports programs to continue their athletic and academic careers at a Quebec CEGEP.
Twenty-two bursaries worth 2,000 $ each have been awarded to top student-athletes starting their college career this fall at a Quebec institution and playing a sport in RSEQ Division 1. Scholarship student-athletes play basketball, soccer, field hockey, soccer or volleyball.
«We are happy that the FAEQ is implementing a concrete initiative that will allow elite athletes to practice their sport in Quebec while pursuing their college studies. With a vision of academic success through sport, these scholarships will further enable student-athletes to focus on their sport and their academic success,» stated Mr. Gustave Roel, President and CEO of the RSEQ.
The College Recruitment Scholarship Program was launched in February 2017 to receive and analyze applications submitted by student-athletes themselves. The valuable collaboration of the relevant sports federations was then essential in the process of identifying and prioritizing the profiles reviewed. The FAEQ scholarship committee then proceeded with the final selection of recipients.
«The caliber and diversity of the recipients of this first edition demonstrate the depth and quality of student-athletes from the school network,» says the Foundation's Executive Director, Patricia Demers. "We are happy to contribute to their development within the RSEQ."
The scholarship awards ceremony took place in Quebec City during the RSEQ Annual General Meeting, with several representatives and leaders from educational institutions in the school, college, and university sectors from across Quebec.
