Investing in exceptional young talent
Montreal, June 12, 2024 – As part of the 20-year collaboration between the Aléo Foundation and Cascades, and in the presence of Mr. Mario Plourde, President and CEO of the Quebec-based multinational, announced that a total of $100,000 in scholarships and services was awarded to 24 Quebec student-athletes at the Auberge Saint-Gabriel in Montreal. The program has been a resounding success since its inception in 2005. As an exceptionally loyal partner of the Aléo Foundation, Cascades has chosen to be a key supporter for hundreds of student-athletes over the past two decades. In doing so, both the company and the Aléo Foundation have demonstrated their belief in the human potential of local athletes. Cascades served as a springboard for Alexandre Bilodeau, Mikaël Kingsbury, Alex Harvey, Amélie Kretz, Elizabeth and Françoise Abanda, Emilie and Hugues Fournel. The latter spoke to the outstanding impact this support had on their careers during the event. In addition to the Fournels, several past recipients of Cascades scholarships were present to mark the 20th anniversary. These included Olympic champion Alexandre Bilodeau, now a financier and member of the Aléo Foundation’s Board of Directors, as well as Olympians Jean-Philippe Le Guellec, Catrine Lavallée and many others. Two other Cascades scholarship recipients also made a significant gesture. Alexanne and Marc-André Gagnon, two freestyle skiers, with their parents, presented their first scholarship as part of the Give to the following program. The Gagnon family presented a $2,000 award to Vicky Roblain, also a freestyle mogul skier. The scholarship was entirely financed by the Gagnons, and comes with lifetime services from the Aléo Foundation. Like the Gagnons, another Cascades scholarship recipient, Christelle Doyon has also personally contributed to two Aléo Foundation programs in recent months. In February, she was a donor for the Next Generation Access, and at the end of May, it was her turn to present a Give to the following scholarship at the Aléo Foundation’s spring cocktail party. In their words: «Cascades sincerely believes in the exceptional role that student-athletes play in our society. That’s why it’s not only natural for us to support them financially, but also to emphasize how much we believe in their potential, athletically and academically. Cascades is a company that relies heavily on its team, and we are privileged to be able to say that our scholarship recipients are part of that team. They inspire us, and in return, we want to help them make the most of their opportunities.»– Mario Plourde, President and CEO, Cascades

It is with great gratitude that we celebrate these two decades of partnership, which have enabled us to make real and beautiful differences in the lives of student-athletes.
