Quebec, May 29, 2017 – M. Jean St-Gelais, Chairman and CEO of La Capitale Financial Services, unveiled the names of the 22 student-athletes who shared $80,000 $ in scholarships as part of the 8th edition of the La Capitale Financial Services Scholarship Program, in addition to announcing that the company was renewing its agreement with the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) for $200,000 $ over 2 years (2018 and 2019), at a rate of $100,000 $ annually.

Four types of scholarships were awarded: 10 Academic Excellence scholarships recognize noteworthy academic results; 9 Academic and Athletic Success Support scholarships encourage a good balance between sports and studies; 1 Leadership scholarship awarded to a student-athlete who is a model of community involvement; and 2 University Recruitment scholarships, which will encourage two high-level student-athletes to pursue their studies and athletic careers at a Quebec university.

Among this year's recipients, several distinguished themselves on the international stage, such as the two Olympians from the Rio 2016 Games, Katerine Savard, who won bronze in the 4x200m freestyle in swimming, and Andréanne Langlois in sprint kayaking, who finished 8th in the K4. Laurence Vincent-Lapointe in sprint canoeing, meanwhile, set an unofficial world record at the 2017 National Trials. On the winter sports side, some are aiming for participation in the upcoming PyeongChang Olympic Games in February 2018, notably Kim Boutin and Samuel Girard in short track speed skating, who respectively won gold in the 1500m at the Dresden World Cup and silver in the 1500m at the last World Championships.

«With this partnership, La Capitale reaffirms its values by continuing to proudly encourage the development of young Quebec student-athletes. We also want to clearly take a stand in favor of the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle habits at all stages of our lives. Congratulations to our scholarship recipients for their perseverance in achieving their dreams,» said Mr. St-Gelais.

The Foundation's President, Mr. Claude Chagnon, wished to thank La Capitale for this strong mark of confidence by renewing its partnership until 2019. «We are very proud of our partners» renewal rate. It largely explains the Foundation's success. Loyal year after year, La Capitale provides the FAEQ with stability and ensures the sustainability of its actions. This loyalty also allows La Capitale to follow the progress and development of its scholarship recipients, both in sports and academics, and in their career transition to the job market."
