A springboard to optimizing potential

Sep 18, 2025 | News from the Aléo Foundation

Laval, September 17, 2025 – The young recipients of the second edition of the Fondation Le BUT scholarship program, within the Aléo Foundation, had stars in their eyes upon arriving at their award ceremony at the Sport Rousseau store in Laval. Store owner and founding president of the Fondation Le BUT, Pierre Gendron, welcomed them as if they were pros, marking the first gesture of this precious bond that will help nurture their self-confidence.

After putting on a hockey jersey featuring the colors of both foundations, the 13 student-athletes identified as “Espoir” each received a scholarship of 1,500 $ and now have lifetime access to all the services provided by the Aléo Foundation team.

The Le BUT Foundation and the Aléo Foundation share many commonalities, including promoting access to elite sport. Thus, the two foundations have joined forces for this scholarship program aimed at supporting promising young hockey and para-hockey players who face barriers to access in order to achieve their goals.

Pierre Gendron is continuing his personal involvement in the Pay It Forward program

In addition to the scholarships awarded through the Fondation Le BUT, Pierre Gendron, a former Aléo Foundation scholar, personally wanted to offer two more scholarships this year to student-athletes in university hockey as part of the Aléo Foundation's Pay It Forward program.

Having benefited from the Foundation's helping hand in the 1990s, he wants to offer the athletes of the current generation encouragement in their efforts to achieve their goals.

In their words:

«I see myself in these young people. To reach my goals, I needed help, people believed in me, including the Aléo Foundation. Without this support, I would not have been able to reach the professional level. The Le BUT Foundation raises funds to pay registration fees and purchase new equipment. It also collects and redistributes used hockey equipment to families, schools, organizations, and associations. If we combine these actions with the scholarship program through the Aléo Foundation, we are deploying even more comprehensive assistance to talented young male and female hockey players to continue in the sport they love. I hope this can be the pat on the back that makes a wonderful difference for the rest of their journey.»

Pierre Gendron, founder and president of the Le BUT Foundation

«At the Aléo Foundation, we aim to encourage student-athletes with great potential to pursue their dreams of athletic excellence and academic success. By partnering with the Le BUT Foundation, this goal is achieved. And it is achieved all the more so coming from a former scholarship recipient, Pierre Gendron, who perfectly illustrates our concept of circular philanthropy, which we value greatly. It is about seeing former recipients wanting to give back in turn, when they are ready, with the aim of enabling current student-athletes to experience a journey that is just as enriching in sports, at school, and at the heart of the great Aléo family.

About the Le BUT Foundation
Launched on September 21, 2022, La Le But Foundation has distributed more than 1,000 pairs of skates. Whether in the Greater Montreal area or even in certain more remote regions, the Foundation is making a difference in the lives of many hockey players. With the goal of making hockey accessible to youth of all ages and thus getting them moving and socializing, the foundation collects used hockey equipment and reallocates it to players in need. Raising funds is the Foundation's second objective, with these funds helping to cover certain registration and development costs.
