Montreal, Wednesday, April 14, 2021 – The Athletes' Foundation of Excellence (FAEQ) virtually presented this midday the 17the edition of the Cascades Scholarship Program, alongside Mr. Mario Plourde, President and CEO of the Quebec multinational, who will once again this year award a total of $80,000 $ in scholarships to 22 outstanding student-athletes.
Cascades has been collaborating with FAEQ for nearly 20 years, a long association that is all the more crucial in these difficult times for student-athletes, who must demonstrate great resilience in light of the adaptations required by the global health crisis. More than ever, all forms of support they can receive are paramount so that our young talents remain engaged and motivated for the eventual full resumption of their sports practice.
The Cascades Scholarship Program has been a great success since its inception in 2005. Over the years, many recipients have distinguished themselves at the national, international, and Olympic levels. Among the group, we can highlight Alexandre Bilodeau, Mikaël Kingsbury, Alex Harvey, Eugenie Bouchard, Elizabeth and Françoise Abanda, Emilie and Hugues Fournel, Marc-Antoine and Alex-Anne Gagnon,Frederique Turgeon and Maryse Turcotte.
The virtual awards ceremony took place live on the FAEQ and Cascades Facebook pages, where individual scholarships of $2,000 $ and $4,000 $ were awarded in three different categories. The first, academic excellence, aims to reward meritorious academic results; the second, support for academic and athletic success, promotes the reconciliation of sports and studies; and the last, university recruitment, encourages the pursuit of studies and athletic careers at a university in Quebec (the Belle Province).
What they said:
«Cascades is happy to continue to financially support and encourage these 22 young leaders, especially considering the challenges and disappointments of the past few months. It is important to remain present for these student-athletes, who are role models of self-improvement that inspire perseverance and resilience. We want to remain in solidarity.»
– Mario Plourde, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cascades
«As with many support organizations, the past year has been full of challenges. The FAEQ is working very hard to continue its mission of supporting student-athletes and providing them with financial assistance in their pursuit of academic and athletic excellence. It is therefore with great gratitude that we receive the trust of Cascades for a 17the year. The unknown and uncertainty have been part of the daily lives of Quebec student-athletes since March 13, 2020. While the partnership between FAEQ and Cascades may have alleviated some of their fears, we can together say: mission accomplished!»
– Claude Chagnon, President of the Foundation for Athletic Excellence
