First regional scholarship awards in Outaouais: the business community steps up for its student-athletes!

Gatineau, April 23, 2025 – Kicking off the regional components of the Aléo scholarship awards, the Greater Gatineau region got things off to a strong start by awarding 70,000 $ in scholarships and services to 26 student-athletes from the Outaouais region. For this first event, more than 150 people gathered at Château Cartier, which generously hosted the event, hosted by Pierre Donais, former TVA anchor, and Philippe Villeneuve of 104.7 Outaouais, a Cogeco Media station.

In close collaboration with Excellence sportive Outaouais, this scholarship program aims to detect talent as soon as it emerges. Indeed, the Espoir category of athletes, primarily high school students, has been targeted. By partnering with regional experts in the field, it is thus possible to identify these budding high-level talents.

In addition to the bursaries offered directly by the Aléo Foundation, several local partners were keen to join in to award bursaries directly to the student-athletes. These valuable allies are: Nomad Telecom, IG Gatineau, Flames de Gatineau, Château Cartier, Bureau Tech, Groupe Mayer, Multivesco, les Entreprises AMS, Restaurant Houston Gatineau, Olympiques de Gatineau, Nadeau Fournier – Arpenteurs géomètres, and Groupe Fortin – Golf et immobilier. Additionally, Les Galeries Aylmer and Cogeco also invested in the evening for the benefit of the athletes.

Throughout the evening, the 2026 event was already in the spotlight! The raffle for a luxury package at Château Cartier, combined with live and silent auctions, has already raised 4,000 $ toward the upcoming regional scholarship funds in the Outaouais region! So mark your calendars for next year.

In their own words:

«This great success, right from the first edition of the regional bursary awards, is a great source of pride for the Outaouais community, which rallied without hesitation from the very first meetings with the Aléo Foundation. We can thus confirm the social commitment of the people here and the privilege local businesses have in supporting the youth in our community so that they can thrive and make the region shine throughout their journey. This is only the beginning! We will be back and will continue to partner with athletes even more. After all, we are very much alike! Entrepreneurs, like athletes, are people of determination, resilience, and perseverance!»

– Nicolas Gosselin, President of Nomad Telecom

«The idea of developing a regional component for our scholarship programs has been brewing in our minds for quite some time. The dual objective of supporting student-athletes at the emergence of their talent, when they are still in their home region, and of partnering with local business communities is wonderfully achieved with this first project in the Outaouais. We are extremely grateful for this enthusiastic response and delighted to be able to be there for even more young athletes.»

– Patricia Demers, Executive Director of the Aléo Foundation
