Ste-Julie, November 15, 2017 – As part of the 4th edition of the Golf Québec/Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec (FAEQ) Scholarship Program, the two organizations awarded a total of 74,000 $ in individual scholarships to 28 of Quebec’s top young golfers. The recipients, aged 13 to 17, were awarded scholarships in one of the following three categories: Academic Excellence, Support for Academic and Athletic Success, or Perseverance.
This program was launched in 2014 thanks to the shared commitment of both parties to provide financial support and better guidance to young student-athletes in golf, while raising their awareness of the importance of pursuing and succeeding in their studies alongside their athletic careers. Eleven generous donors are supporting this project: Acier Hason, Mr. Claude Chagnon, Mr. Marc Dalpé, Fednav, F. Furst Enterprises LTD, the Quebec Governors’ Foundation, the Roland Beaulieu Foundation, Park Avenue Group, William Molson, the Peacock Family Foundation, and Mr. Raymond Royer. It is worth noting that TV host Daniel Melançon—who appears on shows such as *Salut Bonjour*— donated to the FAEQ the proceeds from his appearance on the TVA network show *Le Tricheur* earlier this year, and that a scholarship of 2,000 $ was awarded.
«Since the implementation of the financial support in collaboration with the FAEQ, we have witnessed the impact of the program on the athletes. Several scholarship recipients supported over the past few years have achieved excellent athletic results. This financial support is not only a way to encourage them to push their limits in golf, but also in their studies within an environment that provides them with quality guidance,» said Jean-Pierre Beaulieu, Executive Director of Golf Québec. «I would like to warmly thank all the generous donors for their support in making the dreams of many young athletes a reality, as well as the Foundation for establishing the program over the past four years,» he added.
On behalf of the FAEQ, the executive director stated: «This bursary program, even though it is still young, is proving its relevance and reach. Furthermore, at the last 2017 Canada Games held in Winnipeg this summer, Quebec golfers not only won top honors in the men's and women's team competitions, but they also excelled in the men's and women's individual events, as two recipients of the Golf Quebec/FAEQ Bursary Program climbed to the top step of the podium: Céleste Dao in the women's division (a recipient in 2014, 2015, and 2016) and Christopher Vandette in the men's division (a recipient in 2015 and 2016).».
