The Athlete Excellence Foundation and the Georges St-Pierre Foundation Reward Emerging Talent

January 22, 2020 | Scholarship award

Montreal, January 22, 2020 — The Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) and the Georges St-Pierre Foundation (GSP) recognized the efforts of seven student-athletes this Wednesday. Gathered at the dojo of the Quebec National Sports Institute, at Montreal's Olympic Stadium, each of them received a scholarship of $2,000 $ from Georges St-Pierre in addition to being able to exchange a few combat moves and holds on the mat with the world champion himself.

What they said:
«The GSP Foundation Scholarship Program is important to me because athletes must pursue their studies to prepare for their career transition. I therefore fully adhere to the values and mission of FAEQ. Every year, it is with great pleasure that I personally meet promising young talents to award them scholarships and discover their academic and athletic paths.»

Georges St-Pierre

«This is the seventh year that Georges St-Pierre has placed his trust in each of the student-athletes he supports. It is very significant for them that a fighter of international renown is involved in their journey and presents them with a $2,000 scholarship $. Furthermore, Georges St-Pierre's authenticity appeals not only to the recipients but to our Foundation as well!»

Claude Chagnon, President of the Foundation of Excellence Athlete

The GSP Foundation Scholarship Program, now in its seventh edition, annually supports student-athletes practicing disciplines that Georges St-Pierre incorporated into his training: boxing, fencing, artistic gymnastics, judo, karate, Olympic wrestling, and taekwondo.

Five academic excellence scholarships were awarded to student-athletes with an average academic performance of 80 % and above. Two scholarships for academic and athletic success were also granted, promoting the balance of studies and high-level sports.
