Montreal, June 19, 2017 – The Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) is proud to announce the names of the top college student-athletes who have chosen to study and pursue their athletic careers at one of the twelve Quebec universities that are members of the Quebec Student Sports Network (RSEQ) starting in September 2017.
A total of thirty-five recipients will share a total of 166,000 $. These student-athletes deserve these scholarships because they achieved exceptional results at the college level last year and because they have made a significant impact on the university competition circuit right from their first year of competition.
Among the newcomers, we’d like to highlight the outstanding quarterback Dimitri Morand, who will be donning the jersey of the Université de Montréal Carabins this fall. A standout player, he rewrote the record books for college quarterbacks while playing for the Géants of Cégep Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. A member of the Canadian junior team that won a gold medal at the 2016 IFAF World Championship, he will pursue his studies in communications. Also with the Carabins, Youssef Baati is one to watch. Named RSEQ Division 1 Most Valuable Player in 2017, this exceptional student-athlete also won the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for his impressive academic achievements and will pursue his studies in medicine this fall.
The Foundation will also support rugby player Shawna Brayton. A member of the Canadian U-20 team in 2016, the student-athlete from Châteauguay also won a gold medal at the Canadian Championships with the Quebec team last summer. She will begin her studies in fine arts and sciences at Concordia University and play for the Stingers.

It should be noted that, in addition to the 31 scholarship recipients from Quebec, four Canadian scholarship recipients from outside Quebec will each receive 3,000 $ for choosing a Quebec university to continue their studies and athletic careers.
