Montreal, December 6, 2018 — Georges St-Pierre announced today that the GSP Foundation is renewing its partnership with the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) for another three years, from 2019 to 2021, for a total amount of $45,000 $, at a rate of $15,000 $ per year.
A partner of the FAEQ for six years now, the GSP Foundation annually supports student-athletes who practice a discipline that Georges St-Pierre integrates into his fight preparation. Thus, seven recipients in boxing, fencing, artistic gymnastics, judo, karate, Olympic wrestling, and taekwondo received a $2,000 scholarship $ from Georges himself.
This 6th edition of the GSP Foundation Scholarship Program awarded four academic excellence scholarships to student-athletes with academic results of 80 % and above, and three academic and sports success support scholarships encouraging the balance of studies and high-level sports.
«It's important to me that my foundation renews its contribution to the FAEQ because I believe in their values and their mission to financially support athletes who absolutely must continue their studies to better prepare for their career transition. It's always a pleasure to meet these promising young talents in person, present them with their scholarships, listen to them talk about their academic and athletic journeys, and even spar a few moves on the mat,» emphasized Georges St-Pierre.
For the past six years, the Athletes Foundation of Excellence has proudly partnered with Georges St-Pierre, recalls its president, Claude Chagnon. «Beyond his international renown, it's Georges St-Pierre's authenticity that charms the student-athletes. His involvement goes far beyond the $2000 $ that scholarship recipients receive, if only through the confidence he places in them. In fact, he not only captivates the recipients each year, but us too!»
