Montreal, June 8, 2017 – Ms. Jacinthe-Pascale Gratton, Head of Communications and Government Relations at Alcoa Canada, announced the names of the 22 student-athletes who shared 80,000 $ in individual scholarships as part of the 6th edition of the Alcoa Canada Scholarship Program through the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ).
This year, 10 Academic Excellence scholarships were awarded to reward outstanding academic grades, as well as 11 Academic and Athletic Success Support scholarships aimed at encouraging a better balance between sports and studies, and one University Recruitment scholarship, which will encourage a high-level student-athlete to pursue her studies and athletic career at a Quebec university.

Among the 22 recipients this year, several stood out on the national and international stages, notably Jacqueline Simoneau in synchronized swimming, 7th in the duet at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games; Rosalie Lalonde in wheelchair basketball, 5th at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games; Béatrice Lamarche in speed skating, double bronze medalist at the 2016 World Junior Long Track Championships; Cendrine Browne in cross-country skiing, 26th in the 30 km freestyle at the 2017 World Cup in Finland; Viviane Tranquille in taekwondo, 5th at the World Junior Championship; René Cournoyer in artistic gymnastics, gold medalist at Élite Canada in the all-around; Michèle Morissette in racquetball, senior Canadian doubles champion; Maxence Beauchesne in sprint canoe-kayak, junior Canadian champion in K1 200 m; and Charles Paquet in triathlon, junior Canadian champion.
