RDS Presents College and University Scholarships: 40 Years of Inspiring Rookies

December 3, 2025 | Scholarship award

Montreal, December 2, 2025 – A total of 391,000 $ in scholarships was awarded to 215 student-athletes from colleges and universities that are members of the Quebec Student Sports Network (RSEQ) during the 40th editionbalancing anniversary of this event Aléo, presented by RDS. To this amount, a value of nearly $100,000 $ in lifetime services deployed to recipients by the Aléo Foundation is added, bringing the total investment in Quebec youth and sport close to half a million dollars.

During the evening held at the Maison du loisir et du sport, host François-Étienne Corbin had the opportunity to highlight 78 new scholarship recipients, including 21 college recruitment scholarships from RDS totaling $3,000 $ over 3 years, and 22 university recruitment scholarships totaling $10,000 $ over 5 years.

Among the university scholarship recipients, four are from the Give to the Next program, including the two scholarships offered by Pierre Gendron, a former hockey scholarship recipient at McGill University.

Furthermore, 10 Academic Excellence scholarships offered by Gildan and Molson Coors highlighted a remarkable balance between sports and studies.

Launched in 2024, the McCall MacBain Leadership Program has presented its 13 recipients for the 2025-2026 cohort. Among them are the two recipients of the Guy Lafleur Award, presented by the Montreal Canadiens.

As every year, special Aléo Foundation scholarships, intended for student-athletes who have begun their post-secondary studies at an institution outside the province and have returned to Quebec, were also awarded to seven recipients.

Finally, five scholarship recipients became the first in Quebec Basketball's new program encouraging Women's leadership in basketball.

The 137 other scholarship holders are students in their second year or more of their college or university studies, who are already recipients of the Fondation Aléo.

Entrepreneurial program supported by Danny Desriveaux

As part of the Give Back program, Danny Desriveaux, former professional football player and now financial advisor, chose to add a special touch to the scholarship in his name. It was awarded to Ilan Barbaras, a football player at McGill University, a student-athlete who has demonstrated entrepreneurial skills combined with academic and athletic excellence.

Citation:

«On this 40th anniversary, we can also celebrate four decades of our oldest program, the one born at the same time as the Foundation in 1985, college and university scholarships. The cohorts are renewed each year, but we always find the enthusiasm of the recruits who proudly wear the colors of their new team. An enthusiasm that we share when we meet these promising young people who have chosen the path of excellence at a Quebec institution, both in sports and academics. We are convinced that we are investing in the next generation of Quebec leaders and are privileged witnesses to their first steps in that direction.»
