Montreal, March 16, 2021 – The Fondation de l'athlète d'excellence (FAEQ) is pleased to present the 13 young student-athletes of Laurent Duvernay-Tardif Foundation Scholarship Program(FLDT), who shared 19,500 $ in individual scholarships of 1,500 $ each. Aged 12 to 15, these young people were selected based on their achievements in sports, academics, and the arts.
Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, a FAEQ scholarship recipient for his college-level leadership in 2009 and for his athletic and academic excellence at the university level in 2013, was keen to participate in a live virtual scholarship presentation on the Facebook platform to congratulate the efforts, encourage the talents, and converse with each of his 13 scholarship recipients who stood out despite the pandemic.
A medical doctor and winner of the 2020 Super Bowl, Laurent long combined playing football and badminton with learning the violin. Meanwhile, contemporary art curator Florence Dubé-Moreau pursued sports-study programs in elementary and high school, followed by the École supérieure de ballet du Québec at the college level. As co-chairs of the LDT Foundation, they are therefore well-positioned to appreciate the immense richness of combining sports and arts in personal development.
It was in 2019 that the FLDT and the FAEQ collaborated for the first time, with the announcement of the creation of the FLDT Scholarship Program during the Érabl'hier de demain event. This urban sugar shack dinner, for which Laurent is the ambassador, was renamed in 2021 the Urban sugar shack with Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. The next edition of FAEQ's popular corporate, gastronomic, sports, and festive event will furthermore take place on Saturday, April 10. It will be held in virtual mode on the Yoop platform, a completely Quebec-based initiative.
