Montreal, November 29, 2018 – The first official College and University Bursary Evening presented by RDS in collaboration with TKNL, organized by the Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) in partnership with the RSEQ, awarded $418,000 $ in individual bursaries to the top collegiate and university student-athletes in Quebec.
The FAEQ, which announced a major restructuring of its college and university recruitment program last June, took the opportunity to financially support more than a hundred college and university students who distinguished themselves academically, athletically, or in terms of social involvement during the 2017-2018 season.
The FAEQ therefore has 27 CEGEP recruitment scholarship holders in its ranks, who received a scholarship of $3,000 $ over 3 years; 28 university recruitment scholarship holders who earned a scholarship of $10,000 $ over 5 years; 5 non-Quebec student-athletes who wish to pursue their studies at a Quebec university were offered a scholarship of $3,000 $ each; and finally, 21 merit scholarships of $2,000 $ were presented to student-athletes who are finalists in the 7 program categories in connection with their results during the 2017-2018 season.
«College and university recruitment programs have been rethought to create an offer that is competitive with those outside the province and thus avoid the exodus of our best student-athletes,» said Patricia Demers, Executive Director of the FAEQ. «We believe that with this new structure, we will be able to have a greater impact on the decision-making process of student-athletes and we will be in a better position to follow their academic and athletic progress for eight years.»
