The Foundation for Athletic Excellence and Cascades: $80,000 $ in scholarships for 23 outstanding student-athletes

Jun 9, 2022 | News from the FAEQ

Montreal, Thursday, June 9, 2022 – The Québec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) presented today the 18the edition of the Cascades Scholarship Program, in the company of Mr. Mario Plourde, President and CEO of the Quebec-based multinational, who will once again award this year a total of 80 000 $ on scholarships to 23 elite student-athletes.

Cascades has been collaborating with the FAEQ for nearly 20 years, a long-standing association that is all the more crucial in these difficult times for student-athletes, who must demonstrate great resilience in light of the adaptations required by the global health crisis. More than ever, all forms of support they can receive are essential so that our young talents remain engaged and motivated for the eventual uninterrupted resumption of their sports.

The Cascades Scholarship Program has been a great success since its inception in 2005. Over the years, many recipients have distinguished themselves at the national, international, and Olympic levels. Among the group, we can highlight Alexandre Bilodeau, Mikaël Kingsbury, Alex Harvey, Eugenie Bouchard, Amélie Kretz, Elizabeth and Françoise Abanda, Emilie and Hugues Fournel, Marc-Antoine and Alex-Anne Gagnon, Frederique Turgeon and Maryse Turcotte.

The award ceremony took place at Marie-Victorin Park in Kingsey Falls, where individual scholarships of 2,000 $ and 4,000 $ were awarded in three different categories. The first category, for academic excellence, aims to recognize outstanding academic achievement; the second, for support of academic and athletic success, promotes balancing sports and studies, and the third, for university recruitment, encourages the pursuit of further education and an athletic career at a university in Quebec.

What they said:

«Cascades is proud to continue to encourage and financially support these 23 student-athletes, especially since these young people have had to face several additional challenges over the past two years. Sharing their values of excellence, resilience and perseverance, we wish to reaffirm our commitment to these role models, who are true inspirations to us. Let's give talent the opportunity to shine!»

– Mario Plourde, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cascades

«With more than two long years at the rhythm of COVID-19, we are extremely happy to see the smiles back on the faces of the 18th fellowse Cascades scholarship presentation. The FAEQ is honored to count on the trust of its partner, whose support has never wavered! This trust enables student-athletes to strive toward their goals of academic and athletic excellence. The partnership between the FAEQ and Cascades helps contribute to the achievement of these goals, making it a true success!»

– Martin Lavigne, President of the Fondation de l'athlète d'excellence
