The Foundation for Athletic Excellence awards 281,000 $ in scholarships to student-athletes at CEGEPs and universities in Quebec
Montreal, November 30, 2021 – The Fondation de l'athlète d'excellence (FAEQ) is reiterating its commitment to award no less than 281 000 $ à 169 outstanding student-athletes from CEGEPs and universities in Quebec, members of the RSEQ. Due to the cancellation of the 2020-2021 RSEQ sports season, the FAEQ is unable to present its traditional Quebec University Sports Gala this year. However, the Foundation was keen to organize a virtual event, broadcast on its page Facebook and that of his partner RDS on November 30 at 7:00 p.m. Hosted by Annie Pelletier, former FAEQ bursary recipient, and Matthieu Proulx, winner of two Vanier Cups with the Rouge et Or, this event highlights the support that the Foundation will offer this season to 45 new student-athletes via its recruitment bursaries. The Fondation de l'athlète d'excellence is therefore pleased to name the recipients for the 2021-2022 school year of 19 college recruitment scholarships 3,000 $ over 3 years and 23 university recruitment scholarships 10,000 $ over 5 years. In light of the pandemic and its many consequences for college and university sports, the FAEQ also decided in the summer of 2020 to launch a program to special grants. It is intended for student-athletes who began their academic careers at an institution outside the province and who returned to Quebec for the current college or university semester. As a result, three special scholarships of 2,000 $ were awarded in 2021. In addition, in June, five Gildan Leadership Scholarships were awarded to recognize the social commitment of inspiring student-athletes who are actively involved in their communities. «Student-athletes have once again had to demonstrate great resilience in the face of the many disappointments imposed on them by the COVID-19 pandemic, both in school and in sports, and they’ve done so throughout an entire season! It is therefore with great pride that we continue to support them through our scholarship programs,” said the Foundation’s executive director, Patricia Demers. The program enables us to support a student-athlete in their academic and athletic journey for no less than eight years. More relevant than ever, it has certainly helped guide several of our scholarship recipients safely to port in recent months, which have been most eventful.» New Recipients of the 2021–2022 College and University Recruitment Scholarships
