Montréal, 16 janvier 2024 — Maintenant devenue une tradition pour entamer la nouvelle année, la remise des fondations Aléo et Georges St-Pierre ont mis en lumière sept étudiant·e·s-athlètes de la relève en sports de combat et en gymnastique pour les encourager à poursuivre leurs parcours via notamment des bourses de 2000 $ ou de 4000 $.
Les récipiendaires ont eu la chance de rencontrer, d’échanger et même de faire une démonstration de leur discipline avec l’ancien champion du monde d’arts martiaux mixtes, philanthrope et entrepreneur Georges St-Pierre. Tenant à être présent pour rencontrer ses boursières et ses boursiers, il a accordé une attention particulière et un réel intérêt envers chaque athlète au sujet de leurs réussites et de leurs défis.
Un des objectifs du Programme de bourses de la FGSP est de soutenir des étudiant·e·s-athlètes pratiquant un sport que Georges St-Pierre intégrait dans sa préparation : la boxe, l’escrime, la gymnastique artistique, le judo, le karaté, la lutte et le taekwondo.
Nouveauté cette année : une boursière de la toute première cohorte de la Fondation Georges St-Pierre, Amélie Henry, s’est jointe à la remise, mais cette fois comme donatrice. Ancienne taekwondoïste, elle a participé au Défi 808 Bonneville 2023 et a ainsi amassé les fonds pour redonner à la prochaine génération. Ambassadrice de la Fondation Aléo, Amélie a offert la bourse en taekwondo à Victor Beaudet, entrant ainsi dans le mouvement de réinvestissement vers l’avenir d’anciens récipiendaires. L’accompagnement de la Fondation Aléo leur a permis d’être propulsé·e·s au-delà du sport et ils·elles choisissent aujourd’hui d’investir à leur tour.
La Maison du loisir et du sport s’est pour l’occasion transformée en dojo alors que des tatamis ont été installés pour la remise, permettant de sympathiques démonstrations de tous les sports en vedette lors de la remise. Benoit Beaudoin, reporter – journaliste spécialiste des arts martiaux mixtes et descripteur des galas de l’UFC à RDS, a animé l’activité, en équipe avec François-Olivier Roberge, conseiller communication et philanthropie à la Fondation Aléo, présentant les jeunes récipiendaires, leurs accomplissements et leurs aspirations.

Victor a connu une année 2023 exceptionnelle. L’étudiant en 5e secondaire à l’École Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry a remporté, en janvier, le titre de champion canadien junior chez les moins de 73 kg et, en mars, la médaille d’or au US Open, à Las Vegas, chez les juniors dans la même catégorie de poids. Celui qui rêve des Olympiques est particulièrement fier de la persévérance qu’il démontre, autant à l’école que sur les tatamis.

Talia a débuté la boxe il y a seulement deux ans, comme activité physique pour être en forme! Avec un talent unique, elle a progressé à vive allure pour remporter l’or aux Jeux du Canada chez les moins de 53 kg, en mars 2023, le moment le plus mémorable de sa jeune carrière.

- Champion canadien des moins de 16 ans chez les moins de 50 kg
- Étudiant en 4e secondaire à l’Académie les Estacades
Xavier s’est illustré en 2023 en remportant l’argent à l’Open panaméricain de Montréal chez les cadets de moins de 55 kg, en novembre. Au printemps, le représentant du Club de judo Seïkidokan avait remporté le titre de champion canadien des moins de 16 ans chez les moins de 50 kg, à Montréal. Pour Xavier, le judo est plus qu’un sport, mais une discipline qui l’aide dans plusieurs facettes de sa vie.

Abderrahmane est champion canadien de sa catégorie d’âge pour une deuxième année consécutive. L’étudiant de 3e secondaire au Collège Reine-Marie adore son sport, surtout pour les duels! Il rêve de la plus haute marche des Championnats du monde et des Olympiques!

Champion québécois junior et vice-champion québécois sénior à l’épée, Floryan a découvert sa voie avec l’escrime et il compte suivre son chemin jusqu’au bout! Ses principaux objectifs pour les prochains mois sont de se qualifier pour l’équipe nationale junior et de représenter le Canada aux Championnats du monde juniors!

Après avoir remporté l’or aux Jeux du Canada chez les moins de 60 kg, à Niagara en 2022, Cruz a continué de briller sur la scène nationale, notamment en remportant les Championnats canadiens 2023 chez les cadets de moins de 60 kg.

Georges St-Pierre Supports and Inspires the Next Generation
Montréal, January 16, 2024 — In what has become a new year’s tradition, the Aléo and Georges St-Pierre Foundations focused the spotlight on seven up-and-coming student-athletes who practice either combat sports and/or gymnastics, encouraging them to pursue their athletic endeavours by awarding them bursaries worth $2,000 and $4,000.
The bursary recipients had the opportunity to meet, chat with, and provide a demonstration of their respective sport disciplines to former mixed martial arts world champion, philanthropist, and entrepreneur Georges St-Pierre. St-Pierre, who is always eager to meet his bursary recipients, took a special interest in each athlete’s successes and challenges.
One of the objectives of the GSP Sponsorship Program is to support student-athletes who practice sports that St-Pierre incorporated into his own training regimens: boxing, fencing, artistic gymnastics, judo, karate, wrestling, and taekwondo.
New this year: Amélie Henry, a bursary recipient from the very first cohort of the Georges St-Pierre Foundation Sponsorship Program, took part in the ceremony, this time as a donor. Henry, who formerly practiced taekwondo, participated in the 2023 Bonneville 808 Challenge to raise funds for the up-and-coming generation of athletes. As an ambassador for the Aléo Foundation, she awarded the taekwondo bursary to Victor Beaudet, thus joining other past recipients as they invest in the future. The support past recipients received from the Aléo Foundation propelled them beyond sport and are now paying it forward.
For the event, the Maison du Loisir et du Sport was transformed into a dojo, as tatamis were set up for the ceremony, allowing for demonstrations of all the sports represented amongst the recipients. Emcee Benoit Beaudoin, a journalist specializing in mixed martial arts and UFC Gala reporter for RDS, and François-Olivier Roberge, communications and philanthropy advisor at the Aléo Foundation, introduced the young recipients, highlighting their accomplishments and their aspirations.

Victor Beaudet had an exceptional year in 2023. In January 2023, the secondary 5 student at Antoine de Saint-Exupéry High School won the title of Canadian Junior Champion in the under-73 kg class. In March, he won the gold medal in the same weight category at the US Open in Las Vegas. The Olympic hopeful is particularly proud of his perseverance, both at school and on the tatamis.

Talia began boxing only two years ago, as a way to stay in shape. With her unique talent, she progressed at lightning speed, winning the gold medal at the Canada Games in the under-53 kg category in March 2023. It was the most memorable moment of her young career.

In November 2023, Xavier Brouillette won the silver medal at the Pan-American Open in Montréal in the cadet under-55 kg category. In May of the same year, Xavier, who trains with the Club de Judo Seïkidokan, had captured the title of U16 Canadian Champion in the under-50 kg weight division. For Xavier, judo is more than just a sport; it is a discipline that helps him in several aspects of his life.

Floryan, the Quebec junior champion and Quebec senior runner-up in men’s epee, has found his path in fencing, and he intends to follow it all the way! His main goals for the coming months are to qualify for the junior national team and to represent Canada at the World Junior Championships!

13 years old – Sorel-Tracy

Having achieved great success in the novice category, including earning the title of 2023 Canadian Champion in vault, Stella is now aiming to make a name for herself at her first national junior competition next month in Vancouver.

After winning gold in the under-60 kg category at the 2022 Canada Games in Niagara, Cruz continued to shine on the national stage, winning the 2023 Canadian Championship in the under-60 kg cadet category.
