The Athletes' Excellence Foundation encourages its 15 scholarship athletes qualified for the Tokyo Paralympic Games.

Aug 24, 2021 | News from the FAEQ

Montreal, Tuesday, August 24, 2021 – The Fondation de l'athlète d'excellence would like to highlight the hard work, exemplary perseverance, and inspiring resilience of 15 of its male and female scholarship holders who will take part in the Tokyo Paralympic Games which begin today.

This list of 15 recipients includes 10 female scholarship holders and 5 male scholarship holders who are or have been supported by the FAEQ and its various scholarship programs and valued partners on one or more occasions over the years. Among them is Loto-Québec, which has contributed to the FAEQ for over 20 years and plays a leading role in supporting athletes who practice a Paralympic sport, thanks to its scholarship program dedicated exclusively to athletes with a physical or sensory limitation.

«Paralympians often have a journey strewn with pitfalls, adversity, and multiple small or large challenges related to their physical or sensory limitations. In addition to pursuing their studies, many are already in the workforce, and some have even become parents in recent years. Balancing their training, employment, and family life is a true tour de force. We are proud and impressed by their journey and wish them to perform to the level of their dedication and discipline, while savoring every moment of the Paralympic Games.

Patricia Demers, Executive Director of the FAEQ

Despite the pandemic of the last 16 months, the FAEQ is pleased to be able to confirm that in 2020 and 2021, it will have awarded as many scholarships as in past years—namely $1.5 million in individual scholarships to nearly 525 student-athletes from across Quebec, among young people participating in an Olympic, Paralympic, or RSEQ sport.
