The Foundation for Athletic Excellence becomes the Aléo Foundation

and reaffirms its commitment to propelling the athlete beyond sport

Montreal, November 29, 2022 – To mark its launch event at the Brasseur de Montréal microbrewery, the Fondation de l'athlète d'excellence (FAEQ), a leader for nearly 40 years in supporting student-athletes in Quebec, is becoming the Aléo Foundation. This new step for the Foundation clarifies its mission to propel the athlete beyond sport. In addition to continuing its grant of scholarships and support services to elite student-athletes, it confirms its personalized approach where overall well-being and the well-being in performance its scholarship holders are at the center of its actions.

A new identity

It was essential that the Foundation's mission be understood quickly by reading the name and signature. After much discussion and rounds of creation, the new identity was born:

ALÉO – Propelling the athlete beyond sport

A logo was created for this new chapter of the Aléo Foundation. The connected letters a-l-é represent the aspect of union and togetherness; the two diagonal lines of the e represent upward propulsion; the o, a circular shape, depicts the athlete; and the horizontal bar embodies a podium step, as well as a supporting hand. The entire process, including the name, ideation, design, and production, was generously carried out by DENTSU.

A renewed identity, the same fundamental mission

«During public appearances, several athletes have spoken out about their mental health challenges and the unfavorable conditions hindering their full athletic, academic, personal, and professional development. We want to improve these conditions by adapting our support to the reality of the young ambassadors we back. After much reflection, we agreed that the Foundation's name needed to better represent its mission, its social impact, and its influence as an agent of change. The transition of the FAEQ name to the Aléo Foundation Send the clear message that student-athletes can reach great heights while being well supported and respected in all spheres of their lives. Alone we can go fast, together we can go far », mention Martin Lavigne, President of the Aléo Foundation.

«For this new page of history, the Aléo Foundation will continue its traditional scholarship programs, with its valued prestigious partners and various donors. Aléo will also launch, in the coming months, the new program Next Generation Access. The latter will aim to provide access to high-level sport for the promising new generation of student-athletes with very limited resources,» maintains Patricia Demers (1992, 1994 scholar), Executive Director of the Aléo Foundation.

Demonstrating the vitality and enduring interest in the organization's mission, several past scholarship recipients, now professionals in various fields, committed that very evening to offering financial support to student-athletes as part of the Aléo Foundation's new program.
